Shri Nimishamba Devi Temple

Spend a minute in prayer

Sri Nimishambadevi Temple, Rajarajeshwari Nagar—inaugurated on May 7th, 2006—is a divya kṣetra, a serene spiritual sanctuary nestled within the bustling heart of Bangalore. Built from red laterite stone, reflecting the traditional Pāraśurāma Kṣetra śilpaśāstra architectural style, the temple reflects a design heritage native to Dakshina Karnataka and Kerala. The renowned temple architect Kanipayoor Krishnan Namboodiri brought this vision to life with his mastery of sacred geometry and traditional South Indian temple design.

The name Nimishamba is derived from Nimisha—meaning “a minute”—and Amba, a name of Goddess Parvati. True to Her name, Goddess Nimishambadevi is revered as a swift granter of boons, believed to resolve devotees’ troubles in just a minute. At the heart of the temple lies a sacred Shrichakra, intricately carved in stone before the deity, where devotees offer prayers and conduct poojas with deep devotion.

The Divine Legacy

A Timeless Tale of Devotion, Protection, and Triumph

The divine legacy of Shri Nimishamba Devi traces back to King Sumanaska, who, guided by Lord Parameshwara (Shiva), sought world peace through the Pundarika Yaga. Mukta Rishi agreed to conduct the sacred ritual, but their noble intent drew the wrath of Janumandala, grandson of Vrutrasura. Informed by Sage Narada, Janumandala, armed with a boon from Lord Brahma making him impervious to harm, sought Guru Shukracharya’s counsel and launched an attack to stop the Yaga.

Despite his spiritual strength, Mukta Rishi could not defeat Janumandala. In desperation, he prayed to Goddess Parvati, who instantly emerged from the Yagna Kunda, vanquished Janumandala and Sumandala, and ensured the Yaga’s completion.

In awe of her swift intervention, Mukta Rishi honored her as “O Jaganmathe Nimishamba”, the Goddess who grants relief in an instant.
